This study explores whether the near-ridge environment responds to glacial-interglacial changes in climate and oceanography. New benthic d18O, radiocarbon, multi-sensor track, and phys- ical property (sedimentation rates, density, magnetic susceptibility) data for seven cores on the Juan de Fuca Ridge pro- vide multiple records covering the past 700,000 years of oceanographic history of the Northeast Pacific Ocean. System- atic variations in sediment density and coarse fraction correspond to glacial-interglacial cycles identified in benthic d18O, and these observations may provide a framework for mapping the d18O chronostratigraphy via sediment density to other locations on the Juan de Fuca Ridge and beyond. Sedimentation rates generally range from 0.5 to 3 cm/kyr, with back- ground pelagic sedimentation rates close to 1 cm/kyr. Variability in sedimentation rates close to the ridge likely reflects remobilization of sediment caused by the high relief of the ridge bathymetry. Sedimentation patterns primarily reflect di- vergence of sedimentation rates with distance from the ridge axis and glacial-interglacial variation in sedimentation that may reflect carbonate preservation cycles as well as preferential remobilization of fine material. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: NSF # Grant: AGS-1338832 #--------------------------------------- # Site Information # Site_Name: AT26-19 05PC # Location: North Pacific # Country: # Northernmost_Latitude: 44.97283 # Southernmost_Latitude: 44.97283 # Easternmost_Longitude: 130.8785 # Westernmost_Longitude: 130.8785 # Elevation: -2711 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: 05PC Coarse Costa16 # First_Year: 473670 # Last_Year: 12440 # Time_Unit: cal yr BP # Core_Length: # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-longname components (9 components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, archive, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) ## depth_cm depth,,,cm,,,,,N ## age_calkaBP age,,,calendar ka BP,,,,,N ## coarse% coarse fraction,sediment,,weight percent,,paleoceanography,>63um,,N #------------------------ # Data # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing Value: NaN depth_cm age_calkaBP coarse% 4.5 12.44 5.7 8.5 15.82 8.5 12.5 19.20 20.8 16.5 24.31 20.4 20.5 32.11 18.0 24.5 39.91 14.6 28.5 47.71 17.7 32.5 53.86 17.0 36.5 59.32 19.8 40.5 64.78 14.7 44.5 70.24 14.4 48.5 75.71 13.8 52.5 81.17 9.8 57 87.45 3.6 61 95.20 1.9 65 102.95 1.5 69 110.70 8.4 73 117.97 0.8 77 123.13 3.0 81 128.04 3.5 85 131.35 31.4 89 134.68 41.0 93 142.03 38.5 97 149.38 33.4 101 156.72 35.3 105 164.07 32.6 109 168.04 26.4 113 171.51 21.6 117 174.99 25.2 121 177.76 28.3 125 179.66 17.7 129 181.57 11.8 133 183.47 9.4 137 185.37 7.3 141 187.28 9.9 145 189.18 6.7 149 191.08 5.3 151 192.04 3.4 153 192.99 4.1 155 193.94 1.3 157 194.89 2.7 160 196.32 1.5 161 196.80 1.1 165 198.70 0.0 166 199.17 0.0 167 199.65 0.1 168 200.28 0.1 169 201.33 0.1 170 202.38 0.1 171 203.43 0.1 172 204.48 0.1 173 205.53 0.0 174 206.58 0.1 175 207.64 0.0 176 208.69 0.1 177 209.74 0.2 178 210.79 0.0 179 211.84 0.0 180 212.89 0.0 181 213.94 0.1 182 214.99 0.1 183 216.04 0.0 187 218.70 0.0 191 220.90 0.3 195 223.10 0.3 197 224.20 0.2 199 225.29 0.4 201 226.39 4.5 205 228.59 3.0 212.6 234.63 2.5 216.6 238.30 1.5 220.6 241.98 1.6 225.6 246.46 3.2 228.6 249.60 6.5 229.6 250.66 6.2 233.6 254.86 7.0 236.6 258.01 7.8 237.6 259.06 6.1 240.6 262.21 8.5 241.6 263.26 5.9 244.6 266.41 9.6 245.6 267.47 5.9 248.6 270.62 8.1 249.6 271.67 7.6 252.6 272.21 6.1 253.6 272.21 6.1 256.6 272.21 5.4 257.6 272.21 3.3 260.6 272.21 1.9 261.6 272.21 3.0 264.6 272.21 2.1 265.6 272.21 1.4 268.6 272.21 8.6 269.6 272.21 1.0 272.6 272.21 1.5 273.6 272.21 1.2 276.6 272.21 1.0 277.6 272.21 0.6 280.6 272.21 0.1 281.6 272.21 0.3 284.6 272.21 0.8 285.6 272.21 2.5 289.6 274.64 0.3 293.6 281.01 0.4 297.6 287.28 0.3 300.6 291.96 1.5 301.6 293.52 1.7 304.6 298.21 2.8 305.6 299.77 0.5 309.6 306.01 0.5 313.6 312.26 0.5 316.6 316.94 6.5 317.6 318.50 0.4 321.6 324.75 0.3 324.6 329.42 8.5 325.6 330.48 0.3 328.6 332.74 1.4 329.6 333.49 0.7 332.6 335.74 0.5 333.6 336.49 0.4 336.6 338.75 1.9 337.6 339.50 0.7 341.6 342.51 2.3 344.6 345.01 4.0 345.6 345.88 2.3 348.6 348.50 4.0 349.6 349.37 3.4 352.6 351.98 4.9 353.6 352.85 2.4 356.6 355.47 5.0 360 358.43 1.8 364 361.92 1.5 368 365.40 1.5 372 368.89 1.4 376 372.38 1.7 380 375.86 2.1 384 379.35 1.8 388 382.83 1.4 392 386.32 6.3 396 389.81 1.7 400 393.29 2.2 404 396.78 1.3 408 400.26 1.4 412 403.75 1.0 416 407.51 1.4 420 414.96 2.3 424 417.56 2.2 428 420.16 3.1 432 422.76 3.5 436 425.35 10.4 440 427.95 7.0 444 430.57 15.8 448 433.26 16.8 452 435.95 8.5 456 438.65 17.5 460 441.34 12.8 464 444.03 13.6 468 446.73 15.2 472 449.42 21.9 476 452.12 21.0 496 465.59 7.9 504 470.97 15.4 508 473.67 6.6
