Although the ITCZ is thought to experience the largest shifts in position during deglacial stadial events, the magnitude of shifts has proven difficult to reconstruct, in part because of a paucity of high-resolution records, particularly those including spatial components. Here, we track the position of the ITCZ from 150-110 ka at three sites in the central equatorial Pacific at sub-millennial time resolution. Our results provide the first evidence of large, abrupt changes in tropical climate during the penultimate deglaciation, coincident with North Atlantic Heinrich Stadial 11 (~136-129 ka). We identify this event both as a northern hemisphere increase in aeolian dust and as a shift in the mean position of the ITCZ a minimum of four degrees southwards at 160°W. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: National Science Foundation # Grant: AGS-1502889, NSF OCE-1003374, OCE-1159053, OCE-1158886 #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Comer Science and Education Foundation # Grant: #--------------------------------------- # Site Information # Site_Name: ML1208-31 # Location: Central Equatorial Pacific # Country: # Northernmost_Latitude: 4.68 # Southernmost_Latitude: 4.68 # Easternmost_Longitude: -160.05 # Westernmost_Longitude: -160.05 # Elevation: -2857 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: ML1208-31BB_Dust_Flux Jacobel16 # First_Year: 145500 # Last_Year: 110600 # Time_Unit: cal yrBP # Core_Length: # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-longname components (9 components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, archive, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) ## depth_cm depth,,,cm,,,,,N ## age_calkaBP age,,,calendar kyr before present,,,,,N ## dustflux-Th dust flux,230Thxs,0-normalized 232Th fluxes,,g/cm2/kyr,,Paleoceanography,,analytical technique: isotope dilution mass spectrometry (Element XR ICP-MS),N ## dustflux-Th_err.2s dust flux,230Thxs,0-normalized 232Th fluxes,two standard deviations,g/m2/yr,,Paleoceanography,,,N #------------------------ # Data # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing Value: depth_cm age_calkaBP dustflux-Th dustflux-Th_err.2s 306 110.6 0.148 0.008416402 308 110.8 0.158 0.010041525 310 110.9 0.154 0.009405895 312 111.1 0.166 0.008798995 314 111.3 0.117 0.006139006 314 111.3 0.140 0.007104781 315 111.4 0.115 0.005919384 316 111.5 0.115 0.005405416 317 111.6 0.126 0.006867231 319 111.8 0.128 0.007010567 321 112.0 0.130 0.006950231 323 112.1 0.128 0.006445382 327 112.5 0.127 0.007893693 330 112.8 0.130 0.006877462 332 113.0 0.131 0.007686475 336 113.3 0.147 0.009324795 340 113.7 0.144 0.007362136 340 113.7 0.148 0.007196642 342 113.9 0.132 0.006680697 344 114.1 0.134 0.006807309 346 114.3 0.142 0.006924893 348 114.5 0.150 0.00693531 350 114.6 0.152 0.007277774 352 114.9 0.155 0.007979355 354 115.2 0.142 0.00603881 356 115.5 0.126 0.005641373 358 115.8 0.127 0.00591802 360 116.2 0.128 0.005711113 362 116.5 0.131 0.006240004 364 116.8 0.124 0.006228901 366 117.1 0.134 0.006544563 368 117.5 0.132 0.006231912 368 117.5 0.130 0.005726843 370 117.8 0.112 0.005513169 372 118.1 0.128 0.006332289 373 118.3 0.127 0.006243926 374 118.4 0.138 0.006416296 376 118.7 0.142 0.007893307 378 119.1 0.102 0.004884293 380 119.5 0.102 0.005134707 382 120.0 0.096 0.0045945 384 120.4 0.115 0.005402595 386 120.9 0.104 0.004891843 388 121.4 0.105 0.005103352 388 121.4 0.111 0.005657486 390 121.9 0.102 0.005649366 392 122.3 0.108 0.00530529 394 122.8 0.106 0.005105192 396 123.3 0.126 0.009278974 398 123.9 0.136 0.00752272 398 123.9 0.135 0.006922483 400 124.8 0.141 0.008338274 402 125.7 0.111 0.003355644 403 125.7 0.134 0.00635165 403 126.2 0.131 0.006238209 404 126.6 0.125 0.005661544 406 127.5 0.133 0.005892255 408 128.3 0.158 0.027514338 408 128.3 0.153 0.03816389 410 129.1 0.167 0.025840611 410 129.1 0.168 0.02242505 411 129.4 0.166 0.008497617 412 129.8 0.180 0.007788103 412 129.8 0.176 0.00970559 413 130.2 0.181 0.010952685 414 130.5 0.218 0.012279119 417 131.7 0.221 0.011656728 418 132.0 0.251 0.014196744 418 132.0 0.215 0.014083241 418 132.0 0.214 0.013457412 420 132.7 0.262 0.015343699 422 133.0 0.271 0.015153938 424 133.4 0.261 0.018054711 424 133.4 0.253 0.013868365 425 133.6 0.281 0.015123022 425 133.6 0.251 0.016677376 426 133.8 0.264 0.014793356 426 133.8 0.244 0.013201531 428 134.1 0.239 0.012897033 430 134.5 0.252 0.013409543 431 134.7 0.250 0.014465885 433 135.1 0.242 0.016132803 434 135.3 0.230 0.013897975 436 135.6 0.234 0.011235326 438 136.0 0.250 0.015150512 440 136.4 0.248 0.016745232 440 136.4 0.224 0.013610009 441 136.6 0.241 0.016229084 442 136.8 0.241 0.01286807 444 137.2 0.241 0.016540848 446 137.6 0.234 0.013884323 448 138.1 0.240 0.015436201 451 138.7 0.236 0.016176594 451 138.7 0.244 0.017690388 452 138.9 0.253 0.017211747 454 139.4 0.256 0.01805284 456 139.8 0.250 0.018830731 458 140.3 0.262 0.018031058 460 140.7 0.233 0.013208136 460 140.7 0.238 0.014797507 460 140.7 0.228 0.024442462 461 140.9 0.268 0.019499346 462 141.1 0.274 0.021920795 464 141.8 0.280 0.019594496 466 142.7 0.258 0.017946937 468 143.6 0.291 0.023380814 470 144.5 0.267 0.015959529 471 145.0 0.299 0.026113034 472 145.5 0.323 0.029299365 472 145.5 0.295 0.026361368
