Possible flaws in these records include poor age model controls, utilization of mixed, infaunal foraminifera species possibly influenced by changing porewater chemistry, and bioturbation. We have addressed these concerns using a glacial-interglacial record of epifaunal benthic foraminifera 14C on an ideal sedimentary age model (wood calibrated to atmosphere 14C). Our results affirm – with important caveats – the fidelity of these microfossil archives and confirm previous observations of highly depleted seawater 14C at intermediate depths in the deglacial northeast Pacific. #------------------ # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: # Grant: #------------------ # Site_Information # Site_Name: LPAZ-21P # Location: Eastern Pacific Ocean # Country: # Northernmost_Latitude: 22.98 # Southernmost_Latitude: 22.98 # Easternmost_Longitude: -109.4667 # Westernmost_Longitude: -109.4667 # Elevation: -624 #------------------ # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: LPAZ-21PG 14C Rafter2018 # Earliest_Year: 8470 # Most_Recent_Year: 1690 # Time_Unit: 14C yr BP # Core_Length: # Notes: wood 14C age, constrained by atmospheric 14C via IntCal13 #------------------ # Chronology_Information # Chronology: # #---------------- # Variables # # Data variables follow are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # *** MORE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS are available at www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/paleo/templates/Variable_naming_guide.pdf # variables format: shortname what, material, error, units, seasonality, data_type, detail, method, data_format, additional_information) # ## labcode sample identification,,, ,,paleoceanography,,,N,code used to identify AMS measurement ## depth_top depth at sample end,,,centimeter,,paleoceanography,,,N,the youngest end of the sample ## depth_bot depth at sample start, , , centimeter,,paleoceanography,,,N,the oldest end of the sample ## mat_dated notes,,, ,,paleoceanography,,,N,material dated for 14C age ## 14C_age age,,,radiocarbon year before present,,paleoceanography , ,,N,radiocarbon age ## 14C_age_err age, ,one standard deviation,radiocarbon year, ,paleoceanography , ,,N,radiocarbon age ## notes notes,,,,,,,,C, # #---------------- # Data: # Missing_Values: NA labcode depth_top depth_bot mat_dated 14C_age 14C_age_err notes 163270 2.0 4.0 Bolivina spp. 1785 15 163270 4.0 3.0 Bolivina spp. 1785 15 163271 67.0 69.0 Bolivina spp. 4875 25 163271 69.0 68.0 Bolivina spp. 4875 25 163272 138.0 140.0 Bolivina spp. 8470 70 163272 140.0 139.0 Bolivina spp. 8470 70 181563 2.0 4.0 U. peregrina 1690 20
