          STUDY NOTES: Repository of vertebrate, invertebrate, and paleobotanical specimens. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences&apos; paleontology collection includes approximately 56,000 vertebrate, 55,000 invertebrate and 1,000 paleobotanical specimens. The Museum currently is the repository for 34 fossil type specimens (22 invertebrate and 12 vertebrate). Two of the most notable specimens in the Museum&apos;s paleontological holdings are skeletons of Acrocanthosaurus atokensis and Thescelosaurus.
