Mt. Erebus Saddle is a local snow accumulation zone situated between Mt. Erebus and Mt. Terra Nova on Ross Island, at the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf at an altitude of 1600m. The snow accumulation rate at Mt Erebus Saddle is high (40 cm of snow per year). A 2 m deep snow pit was sampled in 2004/05, and a 168-m-deep ice core was drilled in the central zone of minimum ice flow in December 2006. Mt.
