We review established relationships, provide new \r\nconcepts with regard to distinct rainfall seasons, and mean annual \r\ntemperatures. Tropical corals are coherent with SAT over western \r\nIndia and East Africa at interannual and multidecadal periodicities. \r\nThe subtropical corals correlate with Southeast African SAT at \r\nperiodicities of 16-30 years. The relationship between the coral \r\nrecords and land rainfall is more complex. Running correlations\r\nsuggest varying strength of interannual teleconnections between \r\nthe tropical coral oxygen isotope records and rainfall over equatorial \r\nEast Africa. The relationship with rainfall over India changed in the \r\n1970s. The subtropical oxygen isotope records are coherent with South \r\nAfrican rainfall at interdecadal periodicities. Paleoclimatological\r\nreconstructions of land rainfall and SAT reveal that the inferred \r\nrelationships generally hold during the last 350 years.
