Here we present an ice core oxygen isotope \r\nrecord from the continental Siberian Altai, serving as a \r\nhigh-resolution temperature proxy for the last 750 years. \r\nThe strong correlation between reconstructed temperature \r\nand solar activity suggests solar forcing as a main driver \r\nfor temperature variations during the period 1250-1850 \r\nin this region. The precisely dated record allowed for \r\nthe identification of a 10-30 year lag between solar forcing \r\nand temperature response, underlining the importance of \r\nindirect sun-climate mechanisms involving ocean-induced \r\nchanges in atmospheric circulation.
