Temperatures were lowest \nduring the early to middle Holocene, consistent with documented \neastern equatorial Pacific cooling and numerical model simulations \nof orbital forcing into a La Niña-like state at that time. \nThe early Holocene SSTs were also characterized by millennial-scale \nfluctuations that correlate with cosmogenic nuclide proxies of \nsolar variability, with inferred solar minima corresponding to \nEl Niño-like (warm) conditions, in apparent agreement with the \ntheoretical \"ocean dynamical thermostat\" response of ENSO to \nexogenous radiative forcing. \n","author":null,"citation":"Marchitto, T.M., R.
