Strengths of the collection include: Entomology: British: Coeleoptera and Lepidoptera of the Midlands, including the Richard South Lepidoptera collections and Stuart Carlier collections Non-British: Lepidoptera from Papua New Guinea in the Kenrick and Dyott collections, although the types were transferred to the Natural History Museum, London. Other invertebrates There is a large mollusc collection. British: Land and freshwater molluscs collected by Overton and Deakin . Non-British: Molluscs collected by the Archer family and William Whitlock. Vertberates Ornithology: The collection of bird taxidermy, eggs and nests is significant, with Lysaght, Auden and Robert Chase being important collectors. Botany The herbarium has 50 000 specimens and well represents the West Midlands.
