The collection is  organized in three major sections: a Systematic Collection, a Stratigraphic Collection, and a Type and Figured Collection.  Areas of strength include the Devonian and Silurian of the Michigan Basin ,  the Paleozoic of the US midcontinent,  and the Mesozoic of northern Mexico.
