Paleo Slide Set: Heinrich Events: Marine Record of Abrupt Climate Changes in the Late Pleistocene The working-half of a 7 cm diameter core being sampled on the CSS Hudson. Once on board, the core liner is extracted and the core is split. The core liners are usually 3m in length, but are frequently cut in two to make it easier to transport the cores. In many instances, not all cores are opened on board. During a 2-3 week cruise, many tens of meters of sediment are cored, stored, and eventually transported to national core storage facilities.
