This precipitation gradient gives rise to the following variety of climatic zones 
which are based on the Koeppen climate classification system: a semi-arid region (BS), 
a tropical savanna with dry season occurring in the Northern Hemisphere's winter (Aw), 
tropical monsoon (Am), and tropical rainforest (Af). Shifts in these climatic boundaries 
could result in profound changes in precipitation that would influence vegetation and agricultural yields.
